Longton Brickcroft The Wetland Nature Reserve covers over 11 hectares (27 acres), and has a visitors centre, picnic area and free car park.
North west of Leyland lies the village of Longton, the location of Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve, a 27-acre site of local conservation importance managed as a wetland nature reserve on the site of the former Bentley Brick works. Clay was excavated at the site to make bricks but when good quality clay ran out in the early 1960s brick making ceased and the site became derelict.

During the 1980s 11 hectares of the site was set aside for public open space and nature conservation and a programme of active reserve management ensures that the character and diversity of the Brickcroft are maintained today. The visitor centre, opened in May 1993, contains informative displays on the site's history, local wildlife and environment. (The Visitor Centre is open each afternoon April to October - Tuesday to Sunday and November to March - Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays other than Christmas Day)
